Alex Ziegler ran for a touchdown with 6:00 left in the third quarter and held on to beat
Staples-Motley (Staples, Minn.) 24-21 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Mike Beach, the Cardinals went into halftime with a 14-8 lead. The Rams scored the winning points with a Ziegler touchdown run that came in the third quarter.
Ziegler stood out for Roseau in the win. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown.
Jordan Wick played well for Staples-Motley. The senior tight end kicked three extra points.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 41-29 win for RHS.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Rams, which was coming off a 52-42 defeat at the hands of Warroad in its previous game.
Roseau (3-3) goes up against Pelican Rapids in a Heart O'Lakes - Classic game matchup next week, while Staples-Motley (0-6) locks horns with Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton also in a Heart O'Lakes - Classic game.
