After a string of four wins, the Greater Johnstown Trojans's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 53-52 to Bishop McCort. While losing is never fun, Greater Johnstown can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while Bishop McCort is ranked 18th).
Bishop McCort's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elle Berkebile led the charge by scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. It was the first time this season that Berkebile scored 15 or more points. Gianna Gallucci was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with four steals.
Greater Johnstown's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Bishop McCort, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 19-0.
Greater Johnstown is on the road again on Monday and plays Bishop Carroll at 6:00 p.m. on February 12th. As for Bishop McCort, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Ferndale at 7:15 p.m. Hopefully Bishop McCort focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Monday.
