The Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Plainview by a score of 48-35. Given Elgin/Pope John's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Plainview is ranked 75th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Elgin/Pope John's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kate Furstenau led the charge by scoring 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlynne Charf, who scored ten points.
When it comes to explaining why Plainview lost, one person who can't be blamed is Abbie Kromarek. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Kromarek scored a full 40% of Plainview's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Elgin/Pope John's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Plainview, their loss dropped their record down to 3-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elgin/Pope John won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Wausa at 2:00 p.m. on December 9th. Hopefully Wausa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Tuesday. Plainview won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lutheran-Northeast at 2:30 p.m. on December 9th. Lutheran-Northeast comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
