There's no place like home for the Platte Canyon Huskies, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Thursday. They put the hurt on KIPP Denver Collegiate with a sharp 42-18 victory on Thursday. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Platte Canyon has managed all season.
Platte Canyon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sydney Curtis, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Curtis has scored at least a third of Platte Canyon's points. Another player making a difference was Caley Erickson, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, KIPP Denver Collegiate saw an underclassman step up: Nicole Ricalday dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Ricalday pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, KIPP Denver Collegiate struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Platte Canyon posted ten assists.
Platte Canyon's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. As for KIPP Denver Collegiate, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.
Platte Canyon will be playing at home against Fort Lupton at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Fort Lupton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 36 on Thursday. As for KIPP Denver Collegiate, they will head out on the road to challenge Arrupe Jesuit at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
