The Rocky River Pirates will take on the St. Joseph Academy Jaguars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Rocky River is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Rocky River lost 14-4 to Buckeye on Wednesday. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Bucks recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Rocky River got a good showing from Ava Mae DeMooy, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. DeMooy has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Leigh Konet was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph Academy waltzed into their match on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by a 25-9 margin over the Titans. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won four contests by 14 runs or more so far this season.
Amelia Reyes was a standout: she scored four runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Ailish Ruane was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
St. Joseph Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
St. Joseph Academy pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Rocky River, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rocky River hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like St. Joseph Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .385. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rocky River beat St. Joseph Academy 12-8 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Jaguars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
