El Capitan has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Mira Mesa Marauders at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully El Capitan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, El Capitan didn't have too much trouble with Calexico at home as they won 50-34. Given El Capitan's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 177th, while Calexico is ranked 538th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Amaya Tone was the offensive standout of the contest as she dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Tone set a new season high mark in rebounds with 12. Lilly Williams was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 72-36, which was the final score in Mira Mesa's tilt against Scripps Ranch on Friday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mira Mesa in their matchups with Scripps Ranch: they've now lost five in a row.
El Capitan's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Mira Mesa, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Everything came up roses for El Capitan against Mira Mesa in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 58-29 victory. With El Capitan ahead 26-6 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
