Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Heritage walked away with it. They enjoyed a cozy 28-13 victory over the Grand Junction Tigers on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Mo Thenell and Cash Rubenzer. Thenell rushed for 225 yards and four TDs while picking up 10.2 yards per carry while Rubenzer rushed for 182 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 carries. Thenell's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 107 rushing yards.
Heritage was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 496 rushing yards. They rushed for 250 more rushing yards than Grand Junction's also-impressive total of 246.
Despite the loss, Grand Junction still got an impressive performance from Matthais Martinez-Santana, who rushed for 114 yards and one score. The Tigers are 8-1 when Martinez-Santana posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise.
Heritage's record now sits at 8-3. As for Grand Junction, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 9-3 record.
Heritage wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 45-36 win against Durango on the 22nd. Grand Junction does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
