Emma Burgess was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. Those 15 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Westmoreland let Leah King and Aven Clarke run wild. King scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Clarke scored two runs while going 1-for-3. What's more, Clarke posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Teagan Clarke, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Colonial Beach was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Westmoreland, falling 12-1.
Westmoreland's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Colonial Beach, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Colonial Beach's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Westmoreland has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Colonial Beach, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Westmoreland keep running through batters, or will the Drifters buck the trend?
Everything went Westmoreland's way against Colonial Beach when the teams last played on Tuesday, as Westmoreland made off with a 12-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
