The Stamford Black Knights will square off against the Kolbe-Cathedral Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Stamford has three straight victories, Kolbe-Cathedral has ten straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Stamford made up a huge gap compared to their last game against New Canaan, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Black Knights were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Rams on Tuesday. That looming 10-4 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Black Knights yet this season.
Noe Mercedes made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mercedes was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other pitching news, Jack Gibson looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Aidan O'Loughlin, who fired off two home runs and one double while going 3-for-3. He also put up two RBI, which were his first of the season. CJ Berlingo was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and one double.
Stamford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Kolbe-Cathedral had to start their season on the road on Monday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell just short of Derby by a score of 7-5.
Stamford's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-2. As for Kolbe-Cathedral, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
