It's playoff time, and Lynden Christian had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against the Montesano Bulldogs on Saturday as they made off with a 56-35 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lyncs, who have now won eight games by 21 points or more so far this season.
Lynden Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Eli Maberry out in front who threw for 278 yards and five TDs while completing 85% of his passes, and also punched in one rushing score. What's more, Maberry racked up 164.6 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September. Lynden Christian also got a significant boost from Chris Kooiman, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 158 yards.
Montesano lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Tyson Perry, who threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns. Montesano's leading receiver Kole Kjesbu was Perry's top target yet again, picking up 49 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Lynden Christian's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.6 points on average over those games. As for Montesano, they moved to 10-2 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
Coming up, Lynden Christian will challenge Royal at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Lyncs will need to watch out since the Knights have now posted at least 31 points in their last six contests. Montesano does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
