Mortimer Jordan has gone 8-2 against Corner recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Corner Yellow Jackets at 5:00 p.m. Corner took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Mortimer Jordan, who comes in off a win.
Mortimer Jordan is headed into the game having just posted their biggest win since April 23, 2024 on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Arab as Mortimer Jordan made off with a 16-9 victory. The Blue Devils' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Alyssa Hays A. made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up seven earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. Hays A. was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Tatum Hays T. was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Harper Pridmore, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Mortimer Jordan hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arab struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, Corner started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Hueytown. They fell just short of the Golden Gophers by a score of 10-8 on Tuesday.
Adalyn Owens and Sydney Lackey did some serious damage despite the final result: Owens scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Lackey scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, Lackey posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Anna Kate Smith also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Corner has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. The win got Mortimer Jordan back to even at 4-4.
Mortimer Jordan skirted past Corner 4-2 when the teams last played back in April of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mortimer Jordan since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
