The Bear Creek Bears will square off against the Frederick Golden Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bear Creek is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
Bear Creek is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Dakota Ridge on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Bears were outmatched by the Eagles and fell 49-14. The Bears were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-7.
Despite the defeat, Bear Creek had strong showings from Riley Wilson, who rushed for 68 yards and one touchdown, and Kamari May, who picked up 80 receiving yards and one TD.
Even if they lost, Bear Creek's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Alexander Greer, Jonah Hernandez, and Izayah Medina, who each picked up one sack apiece. Greer was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making ten total tackles.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Frederick, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They blew past Greeley West 40-6 on Thursday. Considering the Golden Eagles have won four games by more than 20 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Bear Creek better keep an eye on Sonny Delpizzo. He was instrumental in Frederick's win, rushing for 119 yards and three scores on only five carries. Delpizzo's longest rush was for an impressive 56 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
Frederick's run defense was locked in: Greeley West could only muster 3.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Christian Inserra for the heroic effort on defense: he. Frederick didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 13.9.
Frederick pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.8 points over those games. As for Bear Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Bear Creek has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 185.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Frederick struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 211.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
