The New Dorp Central Cougars had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They blew past Norman Thomas 65-41. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-12.
Norman Thomas' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaden Chazulle, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Joaquin, who scored five points along with three steals.
New Dorp has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Norman Thomas, they dropped their record down to 6-14 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
New Dorp will challenge West 50th Street at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Norman Thomas, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Stuyvesant at 6:00 p.m.
