Stevens is 2-7 against Harlan since December of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Stevens Falcons will head out on the road to square off against the Harlan Hawks at 6:00 p.m. Stevens will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 591st, while Harlan is ranked 140th).
Stevens suffered their biggest defeat since November 28, 2023 on Tuesday. They suffered a tough 57-36 loss at the hands of Jay. Stevens was down 45-22 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the loss, Stevens saw an underclassman step up: Andra Stokes scored 11 points.
In what's become a running theme this season, Harlan gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Warren with a sharp 64-43 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Harlan has posted since December 19, 2023.
Harlan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Loghan Hamilton led the charge by scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Ruhama Salyers, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Stevens has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-17 record this season. As for Harlan, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season.
Stevens came up short against Harlan in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 52-41. Can Stevens avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
