The Jurupa Hills Spartans will face off against the Carter Lions at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Jurupa Hills is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Jurupa Hills is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Eisenhower just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 4-3.
Alejandro Preciado was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Preciado was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Preciado wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aaden Lopez, who went 3-for-4 with one run.
Meanwhile, Carter hadn't done well against Bloomington recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Lions walked away with a 7-4 win over the Bruins.
Angel Acevedo was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Evan Uribe, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.
Carter has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Jurupa Hills, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 17-5.
Carter's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Jurupa Hills has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .483. It's a different story for Carter, though, as they've only averaged .349. Will they be able to contain Jurupa Hills' hitters?
Jurupa Hills took their win against Carter in their previous matchup on April 4th by a conclusive 11-0 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
