After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. Joseph D, the Cornerstone Family Saints were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They skirted past Onaga 41-39. Given Cornerstone Family's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while Onaga is ranked 270th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cornerstone Family's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaylee Heinen led the charge by scoring 21 points along with four steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Heinen has scored at least 25% of Cornerstone Family's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Culberth, who scored eight points along with seven steals and six rebounds.
Onaga lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Bridgett Campbell, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Campbell has scored all season. Jadyn Haskin was another key contributor, scoring five points along with four steals.
Even though they lost, Onaga were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Cornerstone Family's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Onaga, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-4.

Onaga will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Axtell at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
