The Cooper City Cowboys will venture away from home to face off against the Western Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Cooper City is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Coral Springs on Thursday, sneaking past 12-11.
Brody Murray looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Cooper City got a massive performance out of Nick Tubito, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Tubito has posted since back in March of 2024. Adrian Graterol also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Cooper City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Western was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 12-7 win over Deerfield Beach. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Bucks: they've now won three in a row.
Western let Miguel Tapia and Taisuky Rodriguez run wild. Tapia scored two runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Rodriguez is becoming a predictor of Western's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jorge Falagan, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI.
Western's record is now 7-4. As for Cooper City, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Cooper City's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. Cooper City has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Western, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Cooper City continue to outrun the ball?
Cooper City suffered a grim 15-4 defeat to Western in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Cooper City avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
