DuBois and Altoona are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Beavers will venture away from home to face off against the Mountain Lions at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. DuBois' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Altoona's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
While DuBois' victory against Brookville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Beavers won by a run and slipped past the Raiders 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Beavers have posted since April 16th.
DuBois saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Talon Hodge, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Tyler Chamberlin was another, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Altoona fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Cedar Cliff on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Colts by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Mountain Lions couldn't push the score so high this time.
Leyland Baer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 6.1 innings pitched.
The victory (which was DuBois' third in a row) raised their record to 12-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Altoona, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.
DuBois' speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. The Beavers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Altoona, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will DuBois continue to outrun the ball?
DuBois might still be hurting after the 12-1 loss they got from Altoona in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Beavers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
