The Lyons Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their seventh straight loss. They took a 81-64 bruising from Denver Jewish Day. While losing is never fun, Lyons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 286th, while Denver Jewish Day is ranked 94th).
Lyons' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Caleb Christiansen, who scored 25 points along with six steals, and Jake Lacrosse who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Lacrosse's trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Payton Bolkovatz was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five assists and two steals.
Even though they lost, Lyons smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Denver Jewish Day only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Leading Denver Jewish Day to victory were Solly Bielsky and Keenan Winnerman. Bielsky scored 26 points along with six rebounds and five assists, while Winnerman scored 36 points along with five blocks and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Winnerman has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lev Friedman, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Lyons dropped their record down to 1-9 with that loss, which was their 12th straight on the road. As for Denver Jewish Day, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
Lyons will head out on the road to square off against Union Colony Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Union Colony Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Monday. As for Denver Jewish Day, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Denver Waldorf at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th.
