Mission Hills is 8-2 against San Marcos since November of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. Mission Hills' defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 56-0 win over Rancho Bernardo. Considering the Grizzlies have won five matchups by more than 30 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Troy Huhn, who threw for 136 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 72 yards and one score. Josh Gonzales was in the mix as well, providing Mission Hills with two TDs.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mission Hills was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 224 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Mission Hills didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. De'Mariye Stephen led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. The game marked his first with multiple interceptions this season.
San Marcos hadn't beaten Torrey Pines on the road since October 7, 2016 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Knights narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Falcons 24-21. The 24-point effort marked the Knights' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Mission Hills better keep an eye on Zamar Reese. He was instrumental in San Marcos' win, rushing for 122 yards and one score, while also picking up 86 receiving yards and one touchdown. Reese was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 65 yards. Kreet Makihele was another key player, throwing for 230 yards and a pair of TDs.
The win made it two in a row for Mission Hills and bumps their season record up to 8-1. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 points in those games. As for San Marcos, their record is now 6-3.
Mission Hills came out on top in a nail-biter against San Marcos when the teams last played back in September of 2024, sneaking past 17-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Grizzlies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
