The Stevens Falcons suffered their biggest loss since November 28, 2023 on Tuesday. They were the victim of a rough 57-36 loss at the hands of Jay. While losing is never fun, Stevens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 590th, while Jay is ranked 111th).
Despite the loss, Stevens saw an underclassman step up: Andra Stokes scored 11 points.
Leading Jay to victory were Ny'ashia Barnes and Sincere Jackson. Barnes dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, while Jackson dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Jackson has scored at least a third of Jay's points. Another player making a difference was Shyniece Davis, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds.
Stevens has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-17 record this season. As for Jay, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-10.
Stevens will head out on the road to challenge Harlan at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Jay, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sotomayor at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
