Katelyn Balka spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cora Smith was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Bayleigh Kaliher, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Granby's offense. They fell just short of Ocean Lakes by a score of 2-0 on Saturday. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Comets' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Granby also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kyrsten Wells gave up two runs (both of which were unearned) on seven hits.
With the defeat, Granby broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-3. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 8-12.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Greenbrier Christian Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Granby struggles in that department as they've averaged .412. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Greenbrier Christian Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Granby in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gators since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
