The Mater Dei Monarchs are taking a road trip to face off against the Rocklin Thunder at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Mater Dei sitting on three straight wins and Rocklin on 15.
Mater Dei is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over Sierra Canyon.
Mater Dei had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 20-25, 25-10, 25-22, 25-16.
Among those leading the charge was Sam Capinpin, who had 17 assists and five digs. She has been hot, having posted 12 or more assists the last seven times she's played. Jael Smith also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Archbishop Mitty came into Tuesday's match looking for another win against Rocklin, but Sophie Burns wouldn't allow it. The Thunder sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Monarchs on Tuesday with plenty of help from Burns, who had 11 digs and three aces. With that strong performance, Capinpin is now averaging an impressive 12.1 assists per game.
Rocklin was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (102-97), but they still managed to win. The final score came out to 25-21, 16-25, 16-25, 25-21, 15-10.
Rocklin's victory bumped their record up to 37-4. As for Mater Dei, their win bumped their record up to 34-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's matchup: Mater Dei has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.8 aces per game.
