The Bishop's Knights came tearing into Saturday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They rang in the new year with a 57-47 win over Helix. Given Bishop's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while Helix is ranked 422nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bishop's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Moana Peterson, who scored 17 points along with eight assists and six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Peterson has scored at least 25% of Bishop's points. Another player making a difference was Ayla Johnson, who scored 22 points.
Bishop's has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. As for Helix, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bishop's will take on Francis Parker at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Helix, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome El Capitan at 6:30 p.m. on January 9th. Hopefully El Capitan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
