Tucker County hasn't had much luck against Pendleton County recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mountain Lions will venture away from home to square off against the Wildcat at 5:00 p.m. Tucker County has given up an average of 14.9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Tucker County came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 22-3 to Tygarts Valley. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Tucker County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colton Teter, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run. That run marked the first that Teter has scored this season.
Pendleton County came out on top against Pocahontas County on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run second inning. The Wildcat's pitcher stepped up to hand the Warriors a 15-0 shutout. Considering the Wildcat have won four games by more than 13 runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Mason Miller made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Pendleton County got a massive performance out of Cashton Kisamore, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Kisamore a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chase Owens, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Pendleton County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pocahontas County only managed two.
Tucker County's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Pendleton County, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tucker County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pendleton County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Tucker County suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Pendleton County in their previous matchup on Monday. Can the Mountain Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
