Stevens is 9-1 against Jay since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Stevens Falcons will look to defend their home court against the Jay Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Stevens is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home.
Even though Holmes scored an imposing 64 points on Friday, Stevens still came out on top. Stevens snuck past Holmes with a 70-64 win. The victory was just what Stevens needed coming off of a 74-36 loss in their prior game.
Stevens' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Andra Stokes led the charge by scoring 28 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stokes has scored all season. Giana Monda was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Even though Jay has not done well against Warren recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Jay walked away with a 39-28 victory over Warren. Given Jay's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Warren is ranked 292nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Stevens' win bumped their record up to 9-16. As for Jay, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-10 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Stevens, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 72-58 loss to Jay in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Jay's Sincere Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and 11 rebounds. Now that Stevens knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
