Layton hasn't had much luck against Weber recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 5:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Thursday, Layton came up short against Syracuse and fell 3-1.
Layton started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 24-26, 25-11, 25-17, 25-17.
Meanwhile, Weber suffered their biggest defeat since August 13th on Tuesday. They came up short against Syracuse, falling 3-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Warriors haven't been shut out since back in September.
Weber was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-24, 25-20, 25-20.
Layton will need to focus on slowing down Scarlett Smith, one of several Weber players who made an impact when they last played. She had 18 assists and six digs. Smith has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more assists the last 14 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Tesyn Stewart, who had nine digs and two aces.
Weber's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 17-10. As for Layton, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-17.
Layton couldn't quite get it done against Weber when the teams last played back in September as they fell 3-1. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
