Sherwood has gone a perfect 3-0 against Kennedy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Warriors will welcome the Cavaliers at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Sherwood is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Richard Montgomery, posting a 54-7 win. The victory was nothing new for the Warriors as they're now sitting on three straight.
Preston Hamrick had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 117 yards and three TDs on only ten carries, and also caught one score. What's more, he racked up 26 receiving yards, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mustafa Habib, who rushed for 80 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sherwood was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 292 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Kennedy had no trouble coming through when it counted. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Whitman 50-8. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 30-0.
Kennedy's win came from a few key players Sherwood will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ziaire Mays, who threw for 270 yards and four TDs while completing 91.7% of his passes. His passing game has become a key predictor of Kennedy's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Marc Williams, who gained 72 total yards and two touchdowns.
Kennedy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jayden Gales and Renny Portillo.
Sherwood's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Kennedy, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Thursday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Habib and Ashad Davis. Habib just won't slow down this season and has run in 7 touchdowns while averaging 78 rushing yards per game. Davis has been a dominant force too and has run in 10 touchdowns while averaging 104.6 rushing yards per game.
Everything came up roses for Sherwood against Kennedy when the teams last played back in October of 2019, as the team secured a 56-0 win. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cavaliers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
