Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, a fact the John Glenn Little Muskies proved on Tuesday. They came out on top against West Muskingum by a score of 58-45. Given John Glenn's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 212th, while West Muskingum is ranked 582nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead John Glenn to victory, but perhaps none more so than Stehl Bates, who scored 11 points along with four steals. Bates' trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Briggs, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
West Muskingum's loss came despite strong showings from Carter Smith and Conner Hill. Smith scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks, while Hill scored 12 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Coleman Loyd, who scored five points along with two steals.
John Glenn's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for West Muskingum, they dropped their record down to 6-9 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.
John Glenn will take on Crooksville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for West Muskingum, they will head out on the road to face off against Maysville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Maysville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
