The Pikeville Panthers will head out on the road to challenge the Raceland Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pikeville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Pikeville is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Lawrence County just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs.
Grayson Reed made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Zack McCoy was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Raceland made sure to put some runs up on the board against Greenup County on Tuesday. The Rams put the hurt on the Musketeers with a sharp 13-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Raceland let Parker Ison and Preston Coldiron run wild. Ison went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and one double, while Coldiron went 1-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those four runs gave Ison a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gunnar Smith, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Raceland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenup County only posted an OBP of .350.
The win made it two in a row for Raceland and bumps their season record up to 15-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Pikeville, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pikeville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .471. However, it's not like Raceland struggles in that department as they've averaged .492. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pikeville came up short against Raceland in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, falling 5-2. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
