The West Carrollton Pirates had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They strolled past Troy with points to spare, taking the game 47-33. West Carrollton pushed the score to 39-18 by the end of the third, a deficit Troy cut but never quite recovered from.
Iyanna Thompson was her usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with six steals and five assists. Another player making a difference was Selena Frost, who shot 4-for-8 from long range and almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.
Kiyah Baker and Jayda Dillow certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Baker dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds, while Dillow scored ten points along with two steals. Dillow continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
West Carrollton is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Troy, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-15.
West Carrollton will square off against Fairborn at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully West Carrollton is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in Ohio (they are ranked 286th, while Fairborn is ranked 720th). As for Troy, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Beavercreek at 7:30 p.m. on February 14th. Beavercreekpresents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Troy in Ohio (Beavercreek is ranked 47th, while Troy is ranked 572nd).
