The Sunrise Mountain Mustangs will challenge the Centennial Coyotes at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Sunrise Mountain took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They put the hurt on Desert Ridge with a sharp 12-2 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Mustangs needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Mackenzie Catalanotte made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Sunrise Mountain let Mckenna Morgan and Chelsea Mcmanus run wild. Morgan scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Mcmanus went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those four hits gave Mcmanus a new career-high. Kaylee Pruetz was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.
Sunrise Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Centennial was not the first on the board last Friday, but they got there more often. They blew past Arcadia 18-7. The win was familiar territory for the Coyotes, who have now won three contests in a row.
Kylee Raven tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.
At the plate, Annalise Macias was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Denton, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5.
Sunrise Mountain has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. Centennial's win bumped their record up to 8-6-1.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sunrise Mountain has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .455. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've averaged .545. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sunrise Mountain might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Centennial when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Sunrise Mountain avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
