Great Oak hasn't had much luck against Chaparral recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wolfpack will be playing at home against the Pumas at 6:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Tuesday, Great Oak came up short against Vista Murrieta and fell 3-1. While the Wolfpack didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Broncos 25-16 in the first set.
Great Oak started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 16-25, 26-24, 25-17, 25-18.
Great Oak might have lost, but man, Jadin Mantiply was a machine: she had nine digs and three aces. Tatum Dell also deserves some recognition as she served her first aces of the season.
Meanwhile, Chaparral also suffered a loss in their last game, falling to Temecula Valley by a score of 3-1. The Pumas have struggled against the Golden Bears recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Temecula Valley scored at least 17 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-23, 23-25, 25-17.
Great Oak will have to keep a close watch on Shay Roddy and Olivia Doan, a pair of players who had a big impact on Chaparral's prior game. Roddy had 27 digs and three aces, while Doan had nine digs and two aces. Roddy is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Raza, who had 18 assists.
Great Oak's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Chaparral, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-13.
Great Oak might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Chaparral in their previous matchup back in September. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Roddy, who had 21 digs and two aces. Now that the Wolfpack know the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time?
