The Belmont Marauders will square off against the Winchester Red & Black at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Belmont is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Belmont was handed a 19-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Lexington a 2-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Marauders have posted since May 31, 2024.
The result came thanks to Olivia Ormond's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks.
At the plate, Belmont's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Amelia Ormond, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Reading Memorial hit Winchester with a seven-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Red & Black came up short against the Rockets, falling 12-5. The defeat continues a trend for the Red & Black in their meetings with the Rockets: they've now lost seven in a row.
Ella Centurelli was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Legere, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Winchester now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Belmont, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Belmont has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Winchester struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Belmont took their victory against Winchester in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 15-3 score. Will the Marauders repeat their success, or do the Red & Black have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
