The Spring Valley Grizzlies will venture away from home to square off against the Southeast Career Tech Roadrunners at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Spring Valley's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Eldorado 18-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Grizzlies.
Raelynn Villanueva made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Villanueva was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Aubree Holcombe was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, two triples, and three runs. That's the most triples she has posted since back in April of 2024. Isabella Lenahan was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Spring Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They are 12-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Southeast Career Tech had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 22-0 margin over the Wildcats.
Like Spring Valley, Southeast Career Tech also got a great game from a two-way player: Bea Robinson. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Robinson was also solid in the batter's box, earning four runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aysia Suyat, who fired off three triples, eight RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Laila Esparza, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles.
Southeast Career Tech pushed their record up to 14-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Spring Valley, their record is now 14-8.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Spring Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .442. However, it's not like Southeast Career Tech struggles in that department as they've averaged .419. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Spring Valley might still be hurting after the 13-7 loss they got from Southeast Career Tech in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Grizzlies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
