Crestwood is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will look to defend their home field against the Wickliffe Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m.
Crestwood couldn't beat Chippewa on Saturday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Red Devils lost 11-4 to the Chipps.
Wyatt Januska was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Evan Rhodes was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Wickliffe had to kick off their season on the road last Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. Their pitchers stepped up to hand John Hay a 10-0 shutout. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Alex Aheimer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Aheimer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other pitching news, Gio Moppins looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk).
Back at the plate, Cole Vanatta was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Blake Ludvik, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Crestwood was able to grind out a solid victory over Wickliffe in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, winning 5-2. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
