The Alton Comets will face off against the Mountain Grove Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Alton barely beat Winona the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Comets were the clear victors by an 18-2 margin over the Wildcats on Friday. The Comets haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Emma Cauthen made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Cauthen was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and one triple.
In other batting news, Brayleigh Campbell was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Mollie Warren, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI.
Mountain Grove came out on top against Koshkonong on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Panthers blew past the Blue Jays 12-1.
Like Alton, Mountain Grove also got a great game from a two-way player: Hannah Dowden. On the mound, she pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Dowden was also big at the plate, earning two runs and three stolen bases. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Gabby Miller was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Lyla Golden was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Alton now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Mountain Grove, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
