The Jones Trojans won the last time they faced the Union Spartans, and things went their way on Friday too. Jones really took it to Union for the full four quarters, racking up a 69-37 win on the road. Given Jones' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Union is ranked 377th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Jones to victory were Gabriel Butler and Keonte' Roberts . Butler scored 21 points along with 4 steals, while Roberts dropped a double-double on 22 points and 10 steals. The matchup was Roberts 's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Gjamarion Burris was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 12 rebounds.
Jones' win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Union, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jones will square off against North Duplin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully North Duplin focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday. As for Union, they will head out on the road to face off against Midway at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
