The Colorado high school football schedule this week were a mix between regular-season and playoff contests.
Classes 5A, 2A, 1A and 8-Man unveiled brackets and began first-round play this week, while the 6-Man bracket enters the quarterfinal stage. Class 4A and 3A finished the regular season this week, with bracket announcements scheduled for after the weekend's games.
In the opening round of the 5A playoffs Friday, the top matchup featured No. 14 Eaglecrest beating Legacy for the second time this season, 34-31. The Raptors advance to the second round to meet No. 8 Grandview. In two other 5A playoff games, No. 16 Cherokee Trail took out Fountain-Fort Carson, while No. 23 Highlands Ranch blitzed Doherty 59-7.
Perhaps the most important game Friday pitted two Class 3A undefeated teams in No. 9 Mead and Frederick. Mead likely clinched the top seed in its playoff class with a 27-20 victory. Also in 3A, No. 17 Discovery Canyon upset No. 10 Palmer Ridge 56-49 on Thursday.
No. 1 Cherry Creek, No. 2 Ralston Valley, No. 3 Valor Christian, No. 5 Columbine, No. 6 Regis Jesuit, No. 7 Pomona, No. 8 Grandview and No. 12 Fairview were among those top seeded teams in the Class 5A bracket with first-round byes.
