Football Recap: Trey Burleson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Checotah

Holland Hall posted their closest victory since October 17, 2024 on Thursday. They skirted past the Checotah Wildcats 29-26. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Dutch's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Wildcats are ranked 105th).

Holland Hall got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Trey Burleson out in front who threw for 231 yards and three touchdowns. A healthy portion of that aerial production (84 yards to be exact) went to Kaysen Fredieu, who also brought in two receiving touchdowns.

Holland Hall didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Checotah to a completion percentage of just 46.7%. The team can thank Kainon Gibson for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Holland Hall; they were averaging 63.6%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three matchups they've fallen to only 0%.

Holland Hall's defense didn't let Cole Rolland, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Bryce Kueser was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three himself. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last three games he's played. Holland Hall got some further help from Hudson Short: he made 14 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

When it comes to explaining why Checotah lost, don't look at Rolland. Despite the final result, he rushed for 130 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 53 yards and one TD.

The victory made it two in a row for Holland Hall and bumps their season record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.0 points over those games. As for Checotah, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-3.
