Football Recap: South Vermillion Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for South Vermillion, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They took down the Attica Red Ramblers 32-13 on Friday. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Red Ramblers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

South Vermillion found their leader in sophomore Ben Shryock, who rushed for 53 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Colton Robertson, who rushed for 81 yards and one score.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something South Vermillion proved: they limited Attica to a paltry -0.2 yards per carry. While two picked up at least 11 total tackles, Robertson stood above the rest. He rushed for 81 yards and one touchdown. South Vermillion's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 3.7.

South Vermillion didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Colton Rippy.

Attica's loss came despite strong showings from Gunner Payne and Tristen Miller. Payne gained 166 total yards and a touchdown, while Miller picked up 123 receiving yards and one TD. Payne didn't just play on offense: he also made five total tackles and defended one pass. Hayden Elliot was another key player, having thrown for 338 yards and onetouchdown.

South Vermillion's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Attica, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

South Vermillion and Attica could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Wildcats will challenge Sullivan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (282 vs. 132). Meanwhile, Attica (ranked 296th) will meet South Putnam (ranked 93rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
