The Bunn Wildcats pushed their score all the way to 56 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Beddingfield 61-56. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Bunn in their matchups with Beddingfield: they've now lost four in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Bunn lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jameir Strickland. Despite the final result, he scored 32 points along with eight rebounds. Those 32 points set a new season-high mark for him. Domantea Cooke was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with three steals.
Beddingfield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jhion Ashby led the charge by scoring 18 points. The matchup was Ashby's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jayonta Blanchard, who scored 16 points.
Bunn now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Beddingfield, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bunn will take on Franklinton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Franklinton's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five games. As for Beddingfield, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Greene Central at 7:00 p.m. Greene Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 376th, while Beddingfield is ranked 136th).
