The Helix Highlanders struggled with assists on Saturday (the Eastlake Titans had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Helix fell 53-42 to Eastlake. Helix has not had much luck with Eastlake recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Helix lost, one person who can't be blamed is Valerie Marquez. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds. Those 14 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Jordyn McMillan, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Helix were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Leading Eastlake to victory were Jordyn Worley and Mia Jones. Worley dropped a double-double on 13 points and 19 rebounds, while Jones scored 21 points along with five assists. That's the first time this season that Jones scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Roxy Paranada, who scored 11 points.
Helix's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Eastlake, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Helix is on the road again on Monday and play against Mission Bay at 5:00 p.m. on December 18th. Mission Bay will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 907th, while Helix is ranked 428th). Eastlake will take on Del Norte in a holiday battle at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday at.
