Granada Hills Charter hit El Camino Real with a six-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Conquistadors fell just short of the Highlanders by a score of 6-5. Surprisingly, this marked the third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
RJ De La Rosa and Shane Bogacz stepped up to the plate in a big way. De La Rosa went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI, while Bogacz went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of JJ Saffie, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, South Gate fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Garfield on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 7-6. The Rams' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Nahoa Lozano got South Gate off to a strong start despite the final result, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lozano has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Emmanuel Braganza was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases and two runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Sean Cabrales was another key player, going 1-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
El Camino Real's record is now 19-9. As for South Gate, their record now sits at 18-9.
