Basketball Recap: Margo Leong and Ayla Johnson Secure Win for Bishop's

On Friday, the Bishop's Knights didn't have too much trouble with the Sage Creek Bobcats as they won 53-34. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Bobcats are ranked 574th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Bishop's to victory were Ayla Johnson and Margo Leong. Johnson went 8 for 15 on her way to 18 points and four steals, while Leong dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. The match was Leong's third in a row with at least ten points. Moana Peterson was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Bishop's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 11 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Bishop's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Sage Creek, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Bishop's will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Torrey Pines at 6:00 p.m. on December 27th. As for Sage Creek, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 44-33 win against Escondido on the 14th.
