Maggie Messer was incredible, scoring three runs while going 5-for-5. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Wilson, who scored three runs while going 3-for-5.
Meanwhile, Maryville entered their game against William Blount on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Maryville fell just short of William Blount by a score of 9-7. Red Rebels fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Governors since on Thursday.
Isabella Saunders put in work no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Ava Maples and Allie Watson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Maples went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Watson went 2-for-4 with one home run and one double. Watson also put up a run, which was her first of the season. Taylor Sheffield was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Maryville suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 7-4. As for Carter, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 3-6.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Carter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Maryville struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carter suffered a grim 21-0 defeat to Maryville in their previous meeting back in February. Can Carter avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
