Leuzinger has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Morningside Monarchs at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Leuzinger has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 366 points over their last five games.
Leuzinger stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Centennial 73-29 at home. Given Leuzinger's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while Centennial is ranked 1118th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leuzinger can attribute much of their success to Malachi Knight, who scored 17 points, and Da?mari Taylor, who scored 17 points. That's the first time this season that Taylor scored 15 or more points. Darrian Henry was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Meanwhile, Morningside's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 11th straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 58-43 to Hawthorne.
Leuzinger's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points per game. As for Morningside, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-14.
Everything came up roses for Leuzinger against Morningside when the teams last played on January 5th as the team secured a 94-20 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Leuzinger since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
