The Dumont Huskies will take on the Teaneck Highwaymen at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Dumont will be strutting in after a win while Teaneck will be coming in after a defeat.
On Wednesday, Dumont needed a bit of extra time to put away NV - Demarest. They had just enough and edged out the Norsemen 7-6. The game was the first time the Huskies have beaten the Norsemen on their field since April 18, 2019.
The team relied heavily on Chase Orso, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dylan Mendez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Dumont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Fair Lawn hit Teaneck with a four-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Highwaymen took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cutters. The loss continues a trend for the Highwaymen in their meetings with the Cutters: they've now lost seven in a row.
Jayden Castro was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Castro was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Jack Daniels was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
The victory made it two in a row for Dumont and bumps their season record up to 5-7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Teaneck, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Dumont has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Teaneck struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Dumont beat Teaneck 11-8 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Will the Huskies repeat their success, or do the Highwaymen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
