The Erie Tigers will square off against the Horizon Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Horizon will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Erie extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. Everything went the Tigers' way against Monarch as they made off with a 17-5 victory. The Tigers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Sophee Horovitz looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Molly Young was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Keyanna Reeves, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Erie kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Horizon got the win against Westminster on Saturday by a conclusive 12-6. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Kaiya Barela spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Larrissa Arvizo, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Regan Glaza was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Erie's victory bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Horizon, their win bumped their record up to 13-5.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Erie hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .389. However, it's not like Horizon struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Erie took their victory against Horizon in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 13-1 score. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
