Basketball Game Preview: St. Johns Redskins vs. Morenci Wildcats

St. Johns is 6-0 against Morenci since December of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The St. Johns Redskins will square off against the Morenci Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. St. Johns is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.5 points per game this season.

St. Johns is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Pinon: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that St. Johns blew Pinon out of the water with a 56-15 final score. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-8.

Evelyn Andrus went supernova for St. Johns, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 12 boards. That's the most rebounds Andrus has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Pulsipher, who posted seven points and seven boards.

St. Johns smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in 17 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Morenci ended up a good deal behind St. Augustine Catholic on Thursday and lost 55-41. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

St. Johns has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points per game. As for Morenci, their loss dropped their record down to 8-13.

Everything came up roses for St. Johns against Morenci when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 58-24 victory. Does St. Johns have another victory up their sleeve, or will Morenci turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
